When we think about Ibiza – the island in the Mediterranean Sea off the east cost of Spain, almost everyone has the same images in mind: the sea, the sunny side and the parties. But Ibiza is also where the Ladies Polo Cup takes place since 2016. The exceptional fact? The soil in Ibiza is red! The field looks spacious and beautiful, especially when the sun goes down…

Ibiza Polo Cup

With its great location and weekly tournaments during the season, the Ibiza Polo Club offers the only place to play Polo in the Balearics since 2011. Due to its incredible climate, it’s possible to play polo all year long on the island.

The founders Eva Marquez and Gabriel Iglesias had the wish to create a place where playing Polo while having fun was possible. The project started a year before with Gabriel only, but he successfully brought players together, such as Adolfo Cambiaso – ranked number one in 2017.

The Club welcome all Polo and sun lovers, from beginners who wish to take part of the school program to professionals who want to test themselves.

Sunny Hale

1968 – 2017

This year, the Ladies Polo Cup pays tribute to Sunset Hale known as Sunny Hale who died in February 2017 at age 48 due to complications from breast cancer.

We could not imagine a better empowered woman to represent the Ladies tournament and a better occasion to sponsor this event.

Sunny Hale was the first female Polo Player in America and the first woman in history to win the US Open Polo Championships alongside some of the greatest male players in the sport! No wonder that she is considered as the world’s greatest women’s polo player. Her mother Sue Sally Hale also played Polo in the 1950s but used to disguise herself as a man…

We will remember Sunny Hale through the years, as she helped to break down boundaries for women who wished to live their passion, by creating the Women’s Championship Tournament. She was also inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 2012 and launched the American Polo Horse Association – website used by the players and owners to collect and record horses’ pedigrees.
